When popular gaming webseries Critical Role launched its Kickstarter for “Critical Role: The Legend of Vox Machina Animated Special” in 2019, almost 90,000 people contributed more than $11 million to the effort. Now, The Legend of Vox Machina is a Prime Video series, set to debut on January 28th—and there’s a brand-new red-band trailer for it, complete with epic belching, a sad bear, swearing, and a big ol’ middle finger.
The Legend of Vox Machina is based on Critical Role’s 115-episode first season. Here’s the trailer:
The summary explains:
Based on the beloved characters and adventures of Critical Role’s first livestreamed tabletop role-playing game (RPG) campaign, The Legend of Vox Machina is an animated fantasy-adventure series for adults that follows Vox Machina, a band of misfits with a fondness for boozing and brawling. In a desperate attempt to pay off their mounting bar tab, these unlikely heroes end up on a quest to save the realm of Exandria from dark magical forces. From a sinister necromancer to a powerful curse, the group confronts a variety of obstacles that not only test their skills, but also the strength of their bond.
The cast includes Critical Role founders and cast members Laura Bailey, Taliesin Jaffe, Ashley Johnson, Matthew Mercer, Liam O’Brien, Marisha Ray, Sam Riegel, and Travis Willingham—all of whom are also executive producers. Animation studio Titmouse worked with the Critical Role folks and Prime Video to create the series. Two seasons are planned, with a total of 24 episodes. The 12 episodes of the first season will be released in three-episode blocks starting January 28th.
